| Generic Viagra is an effective drug used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) . Inability in the men to get the erection or retain the erection during the sexual activity is called as erectile dysfunction. Large numbers of men in the world are suffering from erectile dysfunction, i.e. nearly 70% of the men. All the men using the Generic Viagra had expressed their satisfaction. But the latest study revealed that generic Viagra is not only effective against the erectile dysfunction but also can be used to treat the prostate and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with prostate enlargement.
The question here was whether there is some relation between the erectile dysfunction and LUTS. The study was conducted in which investigation of 245 men aged >= 50 years and with regular sex mates using International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5), designed diagnostic interrogation and medical examination, and statistically analyzed the results of IPSS, IIEF-5, LUTS, and their correlation with erectile function. The study revealed that the incidence of ED was 81.9% (140/171) among the men with LUTS, 73.1% (38/52), 82.1% (46/56), and 88.9% (56/63), respectively in the 50-59, 60-69, and > = 70 age groups, with significant differences in IPSS, IIEF-5 (P < 0.01), and the severity of ED (P < 0.01) among different age groups. Thus, the study proved that erectile dysfunction and LUTS are correlated.
Another study was conducted by the group of research workers to know the effect of generic Viagra on LUTS. The 12-week, double-blind, placebo (fake pill)-controlled study of Viagra in men aged 45 years and older who had ED and LUTS associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an enlargement of the prostate gland that causes an obstruction in the flow of urine through the urethra. Sildenafil citrate is the active constituent of generic Viagra. Through phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitions; Sildenafil citrate induces relaxation in penile smooth muscle, resulting in erection. Due to its mild affinity for other PDE enzymes, it may cause smooth muscle relaxation in a number of other organs. Thus, the study concluded that the generic Viagra has effect on LUTS by reducing the symptoms. |
